Monash Univeristy Medicine Interview

December 20, 2005 on 11:30 pm | In General |

Did I tell you about my dinner at Hilton on the Park…umm, no I didn’t. It wasn’t ‘that’ good, but not too bad either - it was a buffet. However, the breakfast was excellent. Western style buffet with various dishes…umm, it was even more varied then dinner. They even had guava juice!?!

After that, I went to the fitness club again- no free weights……so I did some rowing on the rowing machine. However, they did have a piece of equipment that interested me - it was an aerobic/cardio station (it was massive), with a variety of resistance training hydroulics. Can you imagine that: Doing bicep curls as a cardio exercise??? Dude…but it had great isolation (it was a preacher set).

So, I checked out and caught a taxi to Monash University.

Before the interview, I got to talk to a medical student called Sam. I had me sign a form, get a picture of me taken, and told me alot about Monash medicine. After about half an hour, I made my way to a 4 by 4 m room for my interview.

The panel consisted of three people (it’s not difficult to tell between the academic staff, the doctor, and the lay-person). My interview lasted for around45 minutes, and involved three pieces of tests: one scenario for discussion, one scientific de-tech for explaination, and an oral assessment to solve. The actual interview questions covered the standard stuff: why medicine, team work, stress, and aspirations.

My advice for this interview would be: I have to be concise, thorough, logical, and detailed in your explainations(especially with the three pieces of assessment mentioned above). Don’t let them corner you, and back-up your statements, then stick to them!!!

…then, I hopped on a plane back to Brisbane, and lived happily ever after…
