Mr. D, part 2
He was repairing a carpal tunnel when he told everyone in the theatre this story, one that he had no doubt told before. I was probably the only one interested, actually, and that is not necessarily something to be proud of. However it’s just as well I was, else this post would never have come to fruition.
He says -
This is what I tell to vasectomy patients. As soon as a patient requests for me to perform a vasectomy I ask to meet with both him and his wife. They have talked with everyone who agrees with their decision. Their GP, each other, their friends, they all have told them to go ahead, it’s fine. I sit them down and tell them why they must not go through with this. I say that there are three things I need to tell them before he goes ahead with the procedure. First, I tell him, vasectomies are irreversible. To have another operation and then have a 30% chance of success is just not worth considering. The second thing is that having a vasectomy will not stop the wife getting pregnant. The husband needs to make sure he takes precautions and whatnot before he gets checked. Then the third thing are the responsibilities. For me, the surgeon - it’s my responsibility to do the job. Then there’s another responsibility for you, the patient. You have a responsibility to get checked after 6 months before stopping any precautions. By this stage the wife is thinking, ‘Oh, he’s got responsibilities for the doctor, the husband, so it’s fine, this isn’t my operation.’ But then I say, then there’s a third responsibility, for the wife. And the wife looks all confused, thinking, what could this guy be on about?
“The wife has a responsibility to empty her husband.”
And the wife goes pale, white as a sheet. Every time.

Everyone needs to go watch this video and rid themselves of chauvinistic warts that have attached themselves to all of our faces.

okie, this is not relevant to the post but I can’t find another way to inform you all. The Adelaide uni website has posted up a media release answering some questions regarding entry into the MBBS program. Maybe you might like to include it here as reference for future applicants? =)

uh thanks. Well, they repeat that article once every year. There was one released that was almost identical word for word yesteryear. Though it is nice of you to point out that it’s out again this year. ^_^
