addictions

throughout my life i have always been plagued with addictions. always something that i really want to do and always look forward to. I sometimes have two concurrent addictions and not all of them are unhealthy. i guess these could really be classed as obsessions or even nerd-forming behaviour as not all of them are harmful and some are even positive. in reverse chronological order here are some of the ones i have had the chance to be plagued or sometimes blessed with:

1. playing the piano - ever since i was shown the location of the Schultz building by Rei and Kiwie89 (who i shall not name the true identities of as always in my blogposts) I have spent quite a few breaks in there on a piano. In addition, in college, i always find either one of (names withheld) playing the piano in the chapel. Both of them are much better than I am at it and so whenever one of them is playing and i happen to be around, i listen to them. actually, when a person is much better at the piano than I am (that would be… everyone who has been mentioned in this post so far, plus quite a lot of others (you know who you are) plus birdman (special mention because it’s partly his blog too)) i like to listen to them playing stuff and relax a bit. but it is also good to be able to play a bit too. It’s a great way to spend time with friends too.

2. Friends - or at least, spending time with them outside of university, doing random things. I guess i don’t know anyone who can get along without these. These would also have to be the most important addiction of all i guess; the reason that they are number 2 is really due to chronology and the fact that the friendship group i have here is not the same as the one i had in high school.
and spending quality time having fun or relaxing with them or even interacting with them on msn messenger - though it is not as good as in real life by a long shot - can really make my day. I guess Jonathan’s post regarding making friends is actually really true. and the person who wishes to only be known as ‘moi’ illuminates this point rather well. not only did he reveal my actual name on here (thereby, i assume he has given permission for me to use his) but his replies after realising the identity of birdman (thereby revealing two of our identities, giving me even more unspoken permission) were hilarious as heck. Good on you Jerry!
I find my timetable being filled with more and more and more activities simply because it is great spending time with them on random activities - plus the activities are fun. plus there are always those really really memorable moments. Today (10 may) at badminton, our group (12 people!! holy smoke… that’s heaps to be attending from one friendship network outside of the badminton) decided that it would not only be appropriate to be tolerant towards homosexuals (such as one person of mention there who was driving - our group is just waiting for him to come out) but that they should all share the same car. Heck. screw this anonymity thing. there are enough people around with his first name. here is possibly the most memorable quote of the night:
“Gay people follow me.” - Tim, when we were deciding who would go in his car and who would go in birdman’s.
(well, okay, it was funnier in context.)
I wonder if i could have an RSS feed of random quotes that people say. I certainly can think of enough of them. Anonymity is guaranteed. Except for Tim. and Jerry. heh. anyway other addictions:

3. (throughout high school) - Magic, the Gathering cards. More playing with them with other people than collecting them. never had the cash to do so. I guess this is definitely a nerdy one. I haven’t played a game in ages though. though i would have to wonder what i really liked about it. perhaps it’s the friends thing again, or, it could be the thought processes involved and the hilarity of it all. actually I wonder what makes our good times good and our bad times bad.

perhaps it is the laughter. Friends definitely provide it and the more time you spend with them the more likely the chance of a very memorable (generally funny) event occuring.
Magic the Gathering? depends on the situation. Magic the Gathering with friends? not bad i guess. it’s not everyone’s piece of cake.

4. yo-yos. I am sure this trend has come around more than once in my lifetime and that it will come back around again. I used to be able to do some crazy stuff with yoyos. not really crazy stuff mind you, just stuff that makes other people doing those tricks everyone knows (and therefore making them roll their eyes) look on and at least say “wow.” and it requires a good yoyo of course. anyway since i lost my yoyo i haven’t done any of those tricks.

5. Paperclip bending - this has been an obsession since year seven which i have kind of given up due to time constraints. If you give me a paperclip i could still probably bend it straight (if you ever tried straightening the last kink in the paperclip, those sad sad people that have tried… heh… ask me how ^_^).

Anything further on is… well, an addiction of a person that is too dissimilar from the person that I am now to matter i guess.

anyway i am sleepy. to all those people reading: go to bed. unless of course it is not time for bed. but at the moment it is…

i thought badminton was kind of special too, it really showed that as a group of classmates, we all seem to have a good relationship with one another (although that last joke was a very boys one…)

yoyo’s… i can still do cradle in a tree or something? i dunno wt it’s called
you must have been better than me though. i can definitely imagine you being a yoyo pocket rocket.. hahaha

magic the gathering - is that a D&D roleplaying game? like… with a dungeon master and stuff? and besides, there was a computer game based on magic:the gathering that i used to play when i was like 8 or something… i could never find that game afterwards :(

yeah i have tried straightening a paper clip - how do u do it? :P

and go the piano! yay for shultz building! semi-no yay to blind people who kicked us out last time, but oh well. lol

  2. Magic the Gathering is Awesome, don’t pay it out. Yo-yo’s will come back too, eventually. Everyone has addictions, it’s just some people hide them better than others.

Tell me a day you’ll be at schultz and maybe i’ll bring my violin (provided we don’t have resource or something like that on the same day)
